Mattawoman Watershed Society Mattawoman Creek, named “Where one goes pleasantly” by Native Americans, stands out as one of the crown jewels of the Chesapeake Bay. So vibrant are its living resources that a study by Maryland’s Department of Natural Resources (DNR) concluded:
“Mattawoman represents as near to ideal conditions as can be found in the northern Chesapeake Bay, perhaps unattainable in the other systems, and should be protected from overdevelopment.”

Chesapeake Bay Foundation The Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) is the only independent 501(c)(3) organization dedicated solely to restoring and protecting the Chesapeake Bay and its tributary rivers. Since our founding 40 years ago, our goal has been to improve water quality by reducing pollution. Our motto, Save the Bay, has been the battle cry for that goal.
